New analysis method of furfural obtained from wood applying an autohydrolysis pretreatment

چکیده
Two gas chromatography extraction methods based on liquid-liquid (LLE) and headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) were evaluated for analysis of furfural from hemicellulose hydrolysates. Woody biomass was used as renewable resource for furfural production. In this study, autohydrolysis pretreatment was investigated for conversion of xylose and arabinose into furfural at selected ranges of temperatures (180-200°C) and time (5-15 min). The autohydrolysis pretreatment performed at temperature of 200°C and 15 min gives the high furfural content. The maximum pentose and hexose concentration was obtained at 190°C for 10 min reaction time. The results show that the HS-SPME extraction provides better results comparatively with LLE extraction method: no chemicals use; good recovery (95%); relative standard deviation (RSD) value is 7%, showing a good precision of the method; lower detection limits (0.03 μg ml); all these showing that the method can be applied for determination of furfural from wood hydrolysates.

Structural Changes to Aspen Wood Lignin during Autohydrolysis Pretreatment
Aspen wood was subjected to autohydrolysis as a pre-treatment to characterize the structural changes occurring in lignin fractions during the pre-treatment process. Milled wood lignin (MWL) was isolated from both the native aspen wood and hydrolyzed wood chips, and its structural features were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), quantitative 13C, two-dimensional heteronuclear s...

Lignocellulosic material from Leucaena leucocephala was subjected to a two-stage fractionation process to obtain a valorized effluent containing hemicellulose derivatives and a solid phase for producing cellulose pulp by conventional soda-anthraquinone delignification. This solid phase allows the production of cellulose pulp, under less rigorous conditions from NaOH-AQ process (177 °C, 21%, 120...

Carbohydrate-containing hydrolysates (1.1 to 14.9% of wood dry matter) obtained from autohydrolysis (at 130 to 150°C for 30 to 120 minutes) of birch (Betula pendula) chips prior to pulping were purified with respect to non-carbohydrate materials, without carbohydrate losses, either by ethyl acetate extraction or XAD-4 resin treatment. In the former case, about 50% of lignin and practically all ...

The objective of this project is to develop a process for the parallel production of ethanol and cellulose in a pulp mill, by applying a prehydrolysis step to softwood chips to extract hexose sugars for their subsequent fermentation in ethanol. Two kinds of pretreatments were compared, an acid hydrolysis and a two-step treatment composed of an autohydrolysis and a post-hydrolysis of the resulti...

This study established a novel process using sulfite pretreatment to overcome recalcitrance of lignocellulose (SPORL) for robust and efficient bioconversion of softwoods. The process consists of sulfite treatment of wood chips under acidic conditions followed by mechanical size reduction using disk refining. The results indicated that after the SPORL pretreatment of spruce chips with 8-10% bisu...
